DEPOSITING OF LEAVES AND GRASS ONTO CITY STREETS

Spring has definitely arrived in the City of Macomb. With the change, many residents find themselves outside clearing leaves for disposal and mowing their grass. City residents are reminded that when leaves or other debris is willfully placed in the city streets the city’s storm water inlet system may become clogged and create a hazardous situation for drainage during rain events. Clogged inlets can and do lead to flooding of the streets which may create unsafe driving conditions as well as storm water drainage issues on private property. The City has an ordinance that prohibits this type of activity:

“The City of Macomb Municipal Code Article 1. IN GENERAL; Sec.20.2. Deposit of waste and harmful materials in public places. (a) It shall be unlawful to throw or deposit on any street, alley, sidewalk, gutter or other public place any material which may be harmful to the pavements thereof, or any waste material, rubbish, grass, leaves, branches, glass, tacks, nails or other substances or articles.”

Residents are encouraged to comply with the above-mentioned ordinance to avoid be issued an ordinance violation summons.

The yard waste site will be open Thursday-Sunday at no added cost for residents wishing to dispose of leaves and other yard waste materials. The City Yard Waste Site is open Thursday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The City Public Works Department appreciates the cooperation of residents during the Spring season.
