City of Macomb Downtown Development announces Downtown Revitalization project weekly update. The Downtown Sculptures have been taking down and returned to the artist. “We’d like to thank Jack Laverdiere, owner of Commercial Rental, for in kind gift of the use of his equipment to remove the sculptures from the bases,” stated Downtown Development Director Kristin Terry. We want to assure folks of the return of the sculptures at the end of the project. “We will be selecting new sculptures in June 2017 and will be relocating two sculpture bases; (1) Macomb Fire Station #1 and (2) Westen Investments on North Lafayette St.,” said Terry.
Sawing of pavement for the installation of storm sewer has been completed. United Contractors Midwest (UCM) removed lights and light poles in the middle islands around the square. They will be stored and re-installed as the project nears completion. UCM will pick up all orange barrels on the South Side of the square for the time being while working in the Northeast Quadrant. Construction materials will be delivered next week to the staging area, located in the A.R. Cooper municipal parking lot at N. McArthur and W. Jackson St.
Contractors will start in the Northeast Corner on Monday, May 8, 2017. Business owners and the public should be aware, the construction scheduled has been moved up by (1) week to start Monday, May 8th. They will be removing the island, median on the east side of the square, and temporary patching where medians were.
“The square will not be impacted on Western Illinois University Graduation weekend, May 13th. UCM intends to reopen the Quadrant they are working on at the end of each day,” stated Terry.
The estimated date of completion for the Downtown Revitalization Project is August 15, 2017. More information can be found City of Macomb website, Downtown Macomb/Facebook, Downtown Kiosk, or join us in the City Hall Community Room for weekly update meetings each Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
