MACOMB FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A REPORTED SINGLE FAMILY HOME STRUCTURE FIRE

At 12:33 PM, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the Macomb Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in a single-family home at 422 E Franklin St in Macomb. The initial crew arrived on the scene at 12:37 and found smoke emitting from the roof of the structure. Entry was made into the structure where heavy fire and smoke were found in the kitchen area. The home was determined to be vacant at the time of the incident. The fire was extinguished and deemed Under Control at 12:58 PM. No injuries were reported.

The home sustained significant damage to the kitchen area with smoke and water damage throughout with an estimated loss of $56,000. The home was insured.

The residence had smoke detectors, but it is undetermined if they were working at the time of arrival.

Currently, the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department.

Five on-duty Macomb firefighters initially responded with an additional 8 off-duty firefighters being called in. Emmet-Chalmers responded mutual aid to the scene with 3 firefighters. Lifeguard Ambulance, Macomb Police Department, McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, Macomb Public Works, and Ameren IL all assisted on the scene. The scene was cleared at 3:22 pm.
