NOTICE OF EXAMINATION
CITY OF MACOMB, ILLINOIS
BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the City of Macomb, Illinois, will conduct an examination for the purpose of establishing an eligibility register for the position of Firefighter with the City of Macomb Fire Department.
The examination process shall be conducted in accordance with Illinois law and the duly adopted Rules and Regulations of the Board and may include, but is not limited to: a written examination, physical ability test, oral interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and any other components authorized by statute and Board rule.
ORIENTATION SESSION
Applicants are required to attend a mandatory orientation session prior to participating in the examination process.

Only applicants attending the mandatory orientation session will be permitted to continue in the testing process, unless otherwise provided by law.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Applicants must appear at the designated time and place and present valid government-issued photo identification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications established by Illinois law and the Rules of the Board, including but not limited to:
- Must be a citizen of the United States or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must meet the age requirements established under Illinois law.
- Possess a high school diploma, or its equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within twelve (12) months prior to the posting of the Final Eligibility List.
Preference points shall be awarded only as authorized by statute and upon timely submission of required documentation.

Completed applications must be filed with the Board no later than:
Filing Deadline: April 7, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
Applications not received by the deadline will not be considered.
STARTING SALARY
As of 5/1/2025, the starting salary for a firefighter is $54,656.62.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners reserves the right to modify the examination process as permitted by law, to reject any application not in compliance with statutory or rule requirements, and to establish and maintain an eligibility register in accordance with the Illinois Municipal Code.
The City reserves the right to require reimbursement of testing expenses in compliance with the adopted Collective Bargaining Agreement if an officer resigns within two years of employment.
