The City Attorney is appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council for the term of office of the Mayor.

The City Attorney shall be the legal adviser of the city and shall render advice on all legal matters affecting the city whenever requested to do so by any city official.

The City Attorney shall prosecute all violations of the ordinances of the city, enforce all judgments, decrees or orders rendered or entered in favor of the city. He/She shall prosecute and defend any suits or actions at law or in equity to which the city may be a party or in which it may be interested.

It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to draft or supervise the preparation of all contracts, leases, ordinance and resolutions.

Attend all meetings of the City Council, Committee of the Whole, Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Equal Opportunity Fair Housing Commission and Historical Preservation Commission.
