Explorer Program

The mission of the Macomb Police Explorers Post is to educate and mentor young men and women who are interested in the field of law enforcement and provide an environment which impresses the importance of community service, responsibility, and teamwork upon them.

The program provides both lecture and hands-on training opportunities for youth and young adults (ages 14-20) and fosters a professional learning environment amongst explorers and post advisers. The program operates on an internal rank structure, which, by design, places explorers in the leadership positions and gives them ownership in the program, the department, and their community.

Explorers are supervised by advisors, sworn law enforcement officers who oversee the program. Explorers who meet certain requirements once they age out of the program are able to remain with the post as co-advisers and cadets. These unsworn cadets receive more in-depth law enforcement training and assist in coordinating special events and running meetings and other trainings.
